Kongh - Shadows of the Shapeless (2009)

This band's earlier release was posted before on here, and now here is the newer one. Also excellent. Swedish doom/sludge, with some mid-pace death-y parts.

Sombre Labyrinthe - Heptagram Rising (2008)

This is fuzzy, screaming, nebulous black metal from Belgium. It is an evil fogbank fluming down through dark mountains, overtaking villages and cities alike, and turning all human life to rot. I enjoy it, and you will too.

Fell Voices and Ash Borer split (2010)

This is a fantastic tape, and I am terribly excited about it. That is all.

Lantlos - Neon (2010)

German post-rock/black metal band. I appreciate it when bands take black metal into different moods, its like getting your back scratched in a way that you'd needed for awhile. A couple clean I can't entirely get behind (like in Pulse/Surreal), but largely pretty good. The internet tells me they sing about "modernity."

Ancient - Svartalvheim (1994)

Classic, straight-ahead black metal, from (surprise!) Norway. Contains a smattering of nice drippy and/or acoustic parts, and a neat solo that sounds like it is being ripped out in the bathroom adjoining the recording studio (but in a good way).

Finntroll - Nifelvind (2010)

Opens up sounding like Finntroll on a fevered warmarch. Excellent harsh black metal parts in addition to their more customary humppa sound. Also present (and customary) are a couple awkward synth parts, but overall pretty non-symphonic, and at times more brutal than I would have expected. Thanks to MDP.

Eschaton - Causa Fortior (2006)

Driving black metal with old school feel, fuckin' blastbeats exploding everywhere, railing against god, and so forth. Just look at these guys. This is straight up.

Dark Tribe - Archaic Visions (2010)

German black metal. Dark, cold, with desperate howling and screaming. The band name is appropriate. Some good riffs, mostly cohesive and not overly technical. It has some rough spots, but they're pleasing like a punk record. Pretty great.

Asunder - A Clarion Call (2004)

More sludge/doom. This album has resurfaced for me pretty consistently for awhile, and is definitely a personal favorite. If you haven't heard it, just go ahead. There are some great cello passages in here, too.

towards the skullthrone of satan

i discovered this by chance as a chubby highschooler and was completely confused and amazed. this is a clasic peice of (belgium?) black metal history.cheezy traditional black metal with funny sound clips of thunder and church bells. theres even a song called "evil church". this is so good. if it helps there really big with metal nerds in south america..

pyramids vs nadja

this album is a colab between said bands. this is some of the best blissful droney stuff ive ever heard. it goes too far in the indie department at some points, but its still a solid beice of shoegazey lush heavyness. if you dont smoke weed or abuse downers you might not enjoy this.

Freed From This Flesh

this is the new trees album. they are one of my favorite bands. they are from portland, but they sound like they are from the boiler room of a sunken imperial battle ship at the bottom of an ocean made of molten coal. seriously they are that bleak and heavy. this isnt as good as lights bane but its really good. more on the noise/drone side.

and heres there first album

Castevet - Mounds of Ash

this is a full lenght that came out this year on profound lore. i hereby deem this "brooklyn style black metal" i think this might be the band to make it oficial. theres deffinitly a sound thats discernable with bands like castevet, liturgy, krallice, battalus etc that has the same techinical/psyche/avant/post black metal thing going on. take that cascadia with you moss worshiping nonesense! we live in warehouses and are over the "tree" thing( our songs are about the cosmos and other far out shit!). but seriously this is amazing music, the hardcore/postmetal influence gives it an original sound..

Black Twilight Circle

this is an esoteric ass compilation featuring and put out by an "elite" order called the "black twilight circle". especially considering this is all from longbeach california, this is extremely dissonant and unsetteling black metal. my vote would go with the Arizmenda track as the best. but this whole comp is redicoulously good and exactly what i look for in black metal (lo-fi, desperate howls, scrappy autistic virtuoso guitar playing, reverb drentched and extremly vortex like). i should post more "black twilight" stuff soon.

Skagos

One of my favorite Cascadian black metal bands, from Vancouver Island. Ast ended up being one of the albums I listened to the most over the past year, and their other releases are also excellent.

Empyrium - Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays

Excellent acoustic metal, in the vein of Ulver's Kveldssanger but with somewhat denser instrumentation. Really great vocal harmonies, haunting forest-y themes. I, uh, end up listening to this a lot.

De Magia Veterum - Migdal Bavel

Harsh, jarring-ass, technical "avant-garde" Dutch black metal. I think its great. Drum triggers and crunchy synth backs up some shattered guitars. I think its great.

Helheim - Jormundgand

Viking/black metal. Some higher pitched vocals, some piano here and there, and some good alternately glorious and sinister atmospheres. Plus, if you're into Norse things, the lyrics are pretty fuckin' sweet.

metal archives
dl

Warduna - Runaljod: Gap Var Ginnunga

Not black metal, but a side project of Gorgoroth folks. Ambient music using mostly traditional and acoustic instruments, with awesome vocal harmonies and excellent slow pacing. From Norway, of course, and pretty great. I listen to this album regularly. It can make anything you're doing feel imbued with dark forest power. If you haven't heard it, get it.

Weakling - Dead as Dreams

Incredibly epic atmospheric black metal from the Bay. Tragically broken up after this release. A god damn classic.

Muinainen Ruhtinas - Tuskanvuorten Valtaistuin

Great, solid, semi-obscure, one-demo-tape-released black metal from Finland. Solo project of Krimn V from Verisynti. Riffy, with a good mix of tempos.

MOON - APPIRATIONS TAPE

Photobucket

every now and then a band comes alog and i think "wow, this actually does sound and feel like being stranded in an ancient forest". moon truly sound like vast woods, and winter moons, esoteric rites, desolation. their music is very cerebral and atmospheric. check it out. oh yeah and they are from australia.

link: http://www.mediafire.com/?mxmwyki2dnd

its a cold cold world

Photobucket

this is great textured suicidal black metal from one extremely bummed german fellow. layers of dense withering riffs bore at your soul one jab at a time.great vocals. great riffs.

DEAD AS DREAMS - THEIR STEPS BECOME UNBEARABLE

Photobucket

This is a new release from the bay area, this band obviously take weakling as a main influence(hence the bands name, logo, sound) and being that weakling is my favorite band im blown away by this band. Though at times it sounds like their ripping off weakling riffs, this is still a thoroughly bleak and intense slab of black metal. imagine weakling but less psychedelic and more dark and blackened.

triste - hin

this is yet another dense cold work of music.it sounds like being in the back of a vast cave, while being eaten alive by a relentless abysmal void.being ascended into soulless abandon. its half noise, and none of the instruments are discernible from each other every now and then a recognizable melody will submerge from the great tangled knot of sound, yet its so ethereal and cohesive. trance like and reverent.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ymhnvwzmnfm

FELL VOICES

this is a 10 out of 10 on my scale. this is a massive blessing ( or curse) unto the world! the production melds all the instruments, vocals ,and other sounds into one cohesive and very organic and life like sound. its beautiful, cathartic, foggy, and apon intent listen will bring you to strange states of consciousness. i cannot even begin to describe how good this is.

original sin/ËDÏËH split"

This is some serious strange black metal happening, it takes the whole melencholy thing to a whole new level. it almos resembles a standart lofi bm project doing new order covers or somthing.the ËDÏËH side is called butterfly catastrophe..? this is a gem of super obscure black metal. the song lonely sunday on the original sin half is great.

anchorites - demo rehersal tape

this is the first recording of my band ANCHORITES.playing a lofi sludgy variety of ambient black metal.we have another tape release called "time" that came out recently that i will post eventually.please check this stuff out.

http://www.mediafire.com/?om12wdxoqo3

ash borer - demo tape

this is a ridiculously good demo by ashborer.ambient black metal, with hints of doom and post metal. this shit is great

http://www.mediafire.com/?twmkznyncyw

cascadian black metal at its best: LEECH

This is my favorite release by Leech. its a split lp' with legendary nola doom band Thou. the leech side is a 20 minute epic of dissonant guitar and howling reverb drentched vocals, a pulsating trance like abyss of drums. the sound of this is perfectly lo fi yet cohesive. this is highly highly recomended.

i also forgot to mention that the Thou side is pretty heavy aswell.

http://www.mediafire.com/?otxm0mz0mzy

find this and buy it.

this is a tape of earlier material by Leech. its called against leviathan. this doesnt compare to the split with thou, but this is still great soilid cascadian black metal. theres even a cool track of a man giving a speech in an indigenous cascadian language.

shit!

storcrow/coffins split. the stormcrow side is pure dense war crust metal

http://www.mediafire.com/?zmmmm3zm2mz

soggy black pulsating abyss

this Russian nsbm band play bm that's so lo fi that it resembles a strange vehement noise project more than metal. steal this, don't buy this and support the fascist shitheads

http://superuploader.net/b273b199230-Oskal---Stahlkrieg---2006-rar.html

this band is great for us drug users.its heavily processed vocals/pedals/samples. its slowly consumes you into a blissful gnosis, with shimmering swells of sound.

http://www.mediafire.com/?mhz43l0znz3

hospise

blackened dbeat ,some clear parts. also this is from russia.

addaura - demo

cascadian black metal, in the vein of the style. atmospheric. reminds me of leech
