Kongh - Shadows of the Shapeless (2009)

This band's earlier release was posted before on here, and now here is the newer one. Also excellent. Swedish doom/sludge, with some mid-pace death-y parts.

Sombre Labyrinthe - Heptagram Rising (2008)

This is fuzzy, screaming, nebulous black metal from Belgium. It is an evil fogbank fluming down through dark mountains, overtaking villages and cities alike, and turning all human life to rot. I enjoy it, and you will too.

Fell Voices and Ash Borer split (2010)

This is a fantastic tape, and I am terribly excited about it. That is all.

Lantlos - Neon (2010)

German post-rock/black metal band. I appreciate it when bands take black metal into different moods, its like getting your back scratched in a way that you'd needed for awhile. A couple clean I can't entirely get behind (like in Pulse/Surreal), but largely pretty good. The internet tells me they sing about "modernity."

Ancient - Svartalvheim (1994)

Classic, straight-ahead black metal, from (surprise!) Norway. Contains a smattering of nice drippy and/or acoustic parts, and a neat solo that sounds like it is being ripped out in the bathroom adjoining the recording studio (but in a good way).

Finntroll - Nifelvind (2010)

Opens up sounding like Finntroll on a fevered warmarch. Excellent harsh black metal parts in addition to their more customary humppa sound. Also present (and customary) are a couple awkward synth parts, but overall pretty non-symphonic, and at times more brutal than I would have expected. Thanks to MDP.

Eschaton - Causa Fortior (2006)

Driving black metal with old school feel, fuckin' blastbeats exploding everywhere, railing against god, and so forth. Just look at these guys. This is straight up.

Dark Tribe - Archaic Visions (2010)

German black metal. Dark, cold, with desperate howling and screaming. The band name is appropriate. Some good riffs, mostly cohesive and not overly technical. It has some rough spots, but they're pleasing like a punk record. Pretty great.

Asunder - A Clarion Call (2004)

More sludge/doom. This album has resurfaced for me pretty consistently for awhile, and is definitely a personal favorite. If you haven't heard it, just go ahead. There are some great cello passages in here, too.

towards the skullthrone of satan

i discovered this by chance as a chubby highschooler and was completely confused and amazed. this is a clasic peice of (belgium?) black metal history.cheezy traditional black metal with funny sound clips of thunder and church bells. theres even a song called "evil church". this is so good. if it helps there really big with metal nerds in south america..

pyramids vs nadja

this album is a colab between said bands. this is some of the best blissful droney stuff ive ever heard. it goes too far in the indie department at some points, but its still a solid beice of shoegazey lush heavyness. if you dont smoke weed or abuse downers you might not enjoy this.

Freed From This Flesh

this is the new trees album. they are one of my favorite bands. they are from portland, but they sound like they are from the boiler room of a sunken imperial battle ship at the bottom of an ocean made of molten coal. seriously they are that bleak and heavy. this isnt as good as lights bane but its really good. more on the noise/drone side.

Castevet - Mounds of Ash

this is a full lenght that came out this year on profound lore. i hereby deem this "brooklyn style black metal" i think this might be the band to make it oficial. theres deffinitly a sound thats discernable with bands like castevet, liturgy, krallice, battalus etc that has the same techinical/psyche/avant/post black metal thing going on. take that cascadia with you moss worshiping nonesense! we live in warehouses and are over the "tree" thing( our songs are about the cosmos and other far out shit!). but seriously this is amazing music, the hardcore/postmetal influence gives it an original sound..

Black Twilight Circle

this is an esoteric ass compilation featuring and put out by an "elite" order called the "black twilight circle". especially considering this is all from longbeach california, this is extremely dissonant and unsetteling black metal. my vote would go with the Arizmenda track as the best. but this whole comp is redicoulously good and exactly what i look for in black metal (lo-fi, desperate howls, scrappy autistic virtuoso guitar playing, reverb drentched and extremly vortex like). i should post more "black twilight" stuff soon.
